Manx Padel has confirmed that its new padel courts in Noble’s Park are set to officially open this weekend.
Doors for the new courts in the capital are set to open at 10am, with an official ribbon cutting then being held at 10.30am.
A spokesperson from Manx Padel commented: ‘The opening will be a free round-robin on six panoramic glass courts at Nobles Park, and everyone’s welcome to pick up a racket.
‘Never played before? Even better. Our coaches will be rotating around the courts with tips and advice, and no doubt jumping in for a game or two.
‘We have some very special guests joining us on the day, along with their friends and family. You're all invited. Family, friends, kids, young, old, whoever wants to join. Nobody excluded, ever.’
The plans for the courts were unanimously approved by the planning committee in April last year.
Manx Padel had applied to convert four existing tennis courts in the park. The new facilities will include floodlighting and low-level lighting on paths, while there will also be a kiosk used for equipment hire.
In a planning statement Manx Padel said its mission is to lead the development of padel in the Isle of Man, providing a high-class centre that is accessible to all ages, abilities and skill levels.
It said: ‘Our ambition is to have a Manx people competing at the highest of levels, like we have been able to achieve across other sports on the island.’
Chairman of the planning committee Rob Callister said he thought it was a ‘great initiative’ which was ‘something new and fresh’.
Padel is a rapidly growing racket sport that combines elements of tennis and squash.
The facilities will be open from 6am to 10pm, seven days a week.
