A tea party at Dalby Schoolrooms raised £865 for three charities.

The snowdrop tea party, where the flower is picked and used to decorate the tables and sold, is held at the church every year.

The money raised is split between church restoration funds, Mannin Sepsis and Pahar Trust Nepal which helps provide and improve education the country.

During the afternoon, about 50 people gathered in the schoolrooms and were served tea, coffee, sandwiches and cakes.

One of the organisers, Nikki Beavis, told the Manx Independent: ’The Friends of St James’ arrange everything and sort out who is making sandwiches and cakes.

’It is amazing the number of people willing to bake, even some who are not going to be there on the day, so we never go short.’

Meanwhile, Dalby Church will host the World Bonnag Championship on Saturday, February 23 from 7.30pm with classes for men, women, children (under the age of 14), commercial and gluten-free.

Entertainment will be provided by Dot Tilbury and friends, plus a Manx supper, the auction of bonnags and the awarding of prizes.

Tickets are £8.50. For more information, call Gilly on 844031.
