The Soundcheck project will be out and about around the island this weekend at two events.

For the uninitiated, Soundcheck Isle Of Man is a hugely important project run by the Department of Education and Children for beginner bands and solo artists between 13 and 16 years old.

It offers a rehearsal space, help with organising gigs and asisstance with making recordings and videos.

Firstly, on Friday night, Hilltop Hallucinations play between 7pm and 10pm at The Upper Room on The Broadway. It’s £2 to get in and is open to all including the younger folks. As such, this is an alcohol free event.

On Saturday, Soundcheck moves to The Festival Of The Sea in Port Erin.

Under its previous moniker of The Queenie Festival, this Saturday sees a wealth of local acts taking to the Soundcheck stage.

Elsewhere, ’Lost Dogs’ make their live debut on the Manx Music scene this weekend.

A new Pearl Jam tribute whose line-up features John Cleator on vocals, Dick Raine on bass, Kev Cleator and Alex Duke sharing guitar duties and Jonny Peacock on drums, the set looks to delve deep into the Pearl Jam back catalogue from across the years.

Expect the likes of Even Flow, Jeremy, Betterman, Rearviewmirror, Given To Fly, State Of Love and Trust and Once amongst others.

You’ll be able to get right up close and personal when the band plays its debut show on Saturday night at The Railway in Port St Mary.

Heading back up north to Jaks in Douglas and on Saturday night you’ll see 9 Mile Smile in one of their regular slots at the venue.

The band is made up by vocalist Angela Wells, guitarists Graham Smith and Grant Evans, bassist Lewis Thompson and Johnny Wade on drums specialise in covers from the likes of anything from Kings Of Leon via The Stereophonics to Blondie and Michael Jackson and just about anything in between.

A good time band and well worth having a look at if you’re in the area on Saturday night.

Finally this week, if you head to Sam Webb’s in Douglas on Saturday night, you’ll find The Regulars there doing their thing.

Featuring Barry Nelson on Guitar and Vocals, Val Nelson on Bass, John Barker on Guitar and Jim Houghton on drums, the band play a setlist that features some original pieces alongside Blues and Classic Rock covers.
