The Isle of Man Special Olympics floorball team was in action against Norway and Venezuela on Monday in the Winter World Games in Austria.

The opening match against Norway got off to an unsteady start, with the Manx team conceding the first goal within the opening few minutes. This give them a shake up and they duly went on to finish the 20-minute game 13-1 ahead.

There was elation amongst the players as all members of the team managed to score in the game, with Lawrence Dyer claiming his first hat-trick.

The second match against Venezuela also started with an early goal from the South Americans putting them ahead within the first 16 seconds of face off.

Much like the first game, the goal sparked the Manx side into action and, after a really hard battle, managed to equalise.

Unfortunately as the game progressed the Manx team seemed to let frustration get the better of their ability and they made unprovoked judgement errors, conceding two further goals during periods when a couple of the Isle of Man players were serving one-minute sin bin penalties.

This allowed the strong opposition to capitalise on their numerical advantage and, despite the heroic efforts of the defence, a very tired IoM team conceded another goal with the match ending in a 3-1 loss.

The result means that Team Isle of Man have now played three games, winning two and losing one.

On Tuesday the Manx side goes up against the host nation, Austria’s number three team, followed by a match on Wednesday against their fourth team.
