Sponsors are being sought for a domestic abuse training initiative.

Space4Action is a not-for-profit company that wants to publicise the issue of domestic abuse in the workplace.

It is seeking businesses interested in being trained in domestic abuse and currently provides the island’s only abuse recovery programme for women.

The organisation said that after training businesses and starting the workplace scheme, it hopes to eventually train people in the community.

Tamasin Wedgwood of Space4Action said: ’Many workplaces are increasingly focusing on wellbeing and mental health, but domestic abuse remains a little-understood cause of poor wellbeing and poor mental health. If workplaces don’t also address domestic abuse, they are not addressing the cause.

’Staff and clients are far more likely to be affected by domestic abuse than they are by a fire, yet fire training in the workplace is mandatory. Domestic abuse training is rarely received.’

The group said the lockdown and increased home working also highlighted the need for employers to address safety, support and protection at work.

A launch event is scheduled to take place Friday, March 5, from 4pm to 6.30pm at the Comis Hotel, Mount Murray, Santon.
