The Department of Infrastructure has extended the closure of the Mountain Road from the Creg Na Baa Back Road to Barrule Park until 7pm as Storm Barra continues to lash the island.

A DoI statement said: 'This is due the continued high winds over the tops which are causing concern. Wind speeds are currently at 55mph and expected to rise.'

The Met Office has issued two weather warnings for today. Coastal overtopping has caused damage to promenade walls in both Douglas and Ramsey.

The Department of Infrastructure has closed part of Douglas Promenade, Laxey Promenade and Ramsey’s two promenades.

The closure order for Queen's Promenade in Ramsey has been extended until midday tomorrow (Wednesday, December 8).

This is due to the breach of the promenade wall. This will be inspected by engineers when conditions allow, and made safe.

The Douglas Promenade closure has been extended between Broadway and Port Jack in Onchan until 6pm this evening. This is to allow our sweeper to carry on clearing the road of debris. The DoI have asked that motorists please obey the signs. Some have driven past the closure signs, which only serves to extend the time taken on clear up.

Trees have fallen across the island and teams from the DoI are working to clear roads around the island.

Part of a roof has come off a building on Old Laxey Hill, closing the road.

An update from the Met Office indicates that the winds will pick up again between 3pm and 5pm. The wind will veer south, causing more trees down and structural damage.

The National Sports Centre has cancelled all bookings for its outdoor facilities this evening.

We’d appreciate your help in coverage of today’s storm.
