The island’s ’largest’ strike to prevent climate change will be held outside Tynwald this week.

Two social action groups will merge on Friday (September 20) to highlight their concerns on decision-making in regards to the issue.

The Isle of Man Student Climate Network and Isle of Man Climate Change Coalition will join together at 12.30pm for what they say will be the largest strike for climate on the Isle of Man so far.

’It comes after months of battles between the CCC and Tynwald, the latter of which has put off any decision-making regarding climate change off until January,’ a statement from the island’s Student Climate Network says.

The Isle of Man Climate Change Coalition, which is made up of more than 20 groups, and the Student Climate Network, have five key demands for the government.

These are listed as: carbon neutral island before 2035; accurate climate change curriculum; creation of a green new deal; free public transport and divestment from fossil fuels.

’The CCC and the Student Climate Network hope to see people from all backgrounds and ages at the strike, to show the government that this is a multi-generational issue that needs to be dealt with as such,’ the statement added.

One of the latest strikes on this issue took place at Tynwald Day with about 100 people dropping ’dead’ while a Grim Reaper carried a sheath with ’The Time is Now’ written on it.
