Ahead of a by-election on Thursday, Marown residents say issues they’d like resolved are poor street lighting, vehicles speeding dealt with and the re-opening of the public toilet.

At a requisition meeting held on Monday night, they were able to meet the two candidates, Amanda Collister and Oksana Hargreaves, and ask questions.

Residents also shared concerns about issues with road surfaces and the lack of crossing points on the main road through the area.

There were roughly 55 people in attendance, and the meeting was led by the Captain of the Parish of German Alan Corlett.

Chair of the commissioners Alison Lynch says she was pleased with the number of people who attended the meeting to meet the candidates.

‘It’s great having a contested election in Marown and there are two very strong candidates,’ Ms Lynch said.

‘I did a quick head count at the meeting while I was stood at the back, and there was about 55 people there. When we came to set the hall up, we literally put out four rows of chairs, and I think we've used nearly all of them which is great. Roll on Thursday!’

Residents will be able to vote from 8am to 8pm on Thursday at Crosby Methodist Church Hall on Old Church Road.

There is one available seat in the local authority following the resignation of John Lovelady last month.

‘I'm hoping that, given the good turnout, that we'll have a good turnout on Thursday for the election,’ Ms Lynch added.

‘It is something new, as we haven't had a contested election for a number of years. It’s exciting times!’
