What a fun summer we are having at the Isle of Man Family Library!
It’s been a kaleidoscope of colour as we’ve explored the beauty and mystery of the ocean via diver mannequins, flying seagulls and funky fish to name just three.
We’ve met lively lobsters, learned about sea safety, found out how to care for our environment and built driftwood sculptures with pieces of wood that have washed up onto our beaches.
We’ve had visits from the RNLI, Manx Basking Shark Watch, Beach Buddies, enjoyed craft workshops and there’s still a few days remaining before our summer reading challenge draws to a close.
Question is: have you read six books during the holidays to be in line for a prize at our glamorous ’Octo Oscars’ party on Saturday, August 31?
It’s the big conclusion of our Oceans Adventure initiative, kindly supported by PwC IOM, and there’s still time for you to come and ’sea’ us.
There’ll also be an ’oscar’ gong for the best fancy dress at our awards ceremony.
So whether you’re planning to wear fairy wings, dress as a mermaid or emerge as a mythical sea creature, we can’t wait to see you for an evening of ’splashtastic’ fun and frolics.
It’s all happening from 5pmto7pm with fun games and activities thrown in, along with some yummy party food to sink your teeth into.
Just because the holidays are nearing an end, the fun and learning doesn’t stop and we will still be as busy as ever.
We’ve teamed up with The Children’s Centre to host DIY faerie wing workshops for people to pop in and make their own faerie costumes.
This is part of the preparation for Saturday, September 28 and the Centre’s attempt to break the world record for the largest gathering of fairies, which currently stands at 878 people.
After our ’oscars’, we have an exciting new class for mums-to-be starting in September.
We’re delighted to announce we’ll be holding ’Bump to Baby’ practical skills workshops on Monday afternoons from September 16, between 1pm and 2.30pm.
Watch out on our Facebook page and in the media for more information about the four-week course which will be focusing on feeding, practical skills, safe sleep and realistic expectations.
