The transition of Castletown Square to an open air venue for events is being further advanced with live music and bike displays on June 1.

This is the second year the town square - which was reconfigured in a regeneration project three years ago - has hosted a TT Day and the local authority says it was inspired by the success of the inaugural event.

From 11am to 5pm there will be live music, a food market, displays by the Station garage trial team and of ex-race bikes plus rides for children.

In the Civic Centre there is an exhibition of drawings and paintings by motorcycle artist John Hancox.

Live music is provided by local bands and headlined (at 12.30pm and 1.45pm) by the Bristol-based band Rockpipes.

Rockpipes’ fusion of traditional Celtic music with rock gives a brilliant twist to traditional and contemporary classics.

In addition to key boards, bass, drums, guitar and violin there are three formidable Highland pipers.

Organisers said you should expect to hear songs you recognise in a way you have never heard music before.

The Station garage trial display team’s young riders amazed the crowds last year with their display.

Chairman of Castletown Commissioners Colin Leather told the Examiner: ’I am absolutely delighted that the Market Square will be full of life and once again used to its full potential as a flexible public space.

’Castletown has a wide range of local businesses and cultural attractions to welcome visitors to the town.

’The Market Square is fast being seen as a venue in its own right and I am pleased that we can build on the success of the inaugural event and welcome you to the 2018 Castletown TT Day.’
