An inquest has recorded a misadventure verdict on a TT competitor who crashed during practices for the 2016 TT races.
Paul Jeremy Shoesmith, who was 50 and came from Poynton in Stockport, died from multiple injuries when a tyre burst on his BMW1000RR as he was travelling through Sulby. The accident happened in the early evening on June 4 as Mr Shoesmith, an experienced TT competitor, was completing his second practice lap of the day. He died from multiple injuries.
No faults were found with the motorcycle however, it was noted the front tyre being used on the bike was manufactured in 2014. A vehicle inspection following the accident found signs the tyre had failed on its sidewall. Witnessess said it had appeared to deflate after making contact with the tarmac again after the bike wheelied over a depression in the surface.
Delivering his verdict, coroner John Needham offered his condolences to Mr Shoesmith’s family.
