Keep drones away from airport, aircraft and airfields.
That is the message from the Isle of Man Airport as a warning to both recreational and commercial drone operators.
A spokesman said: ’Recreational drone operators are strongly advised not to fly within three nautical miles of Isle of Man Airport.
’Commercial operators are required to obtain permission from Air Traffic Control to fly within three nautical miles of the airport, in addition to holding a CAApermission for their activities.’
A spokesman for the airport told the Courier, this advice was not due to any specific incident, rather was just a notice to ensure everyone could enjoy themselves or go about their work safely and legally.
A link Isle of Man Airport Facebook page includes further advice on flying drones safely and outlines some laws that owners may not be aware of.
The term ’drone’ can refer to many number of things, for example a small unmanned aircraft or a small unmanned surveillance aircraft.
It added that they can be used for a multitude of purposes including recreational flying, aerial photography and other commercial operations.
The Civil Aviation Administration suggests in the interests of flying legally and safely, you make sure you can see your drone at all times and don’t fly it higher than 400 feet.
The CAA also stated that drones with cameras can’t be flown within 50 metres of people, vehicles, boats or within 150 metres of a large gathering of people.
