A visiting biker who was riding at nearly double the speed limit has been fined £350 and given eight penalty points.

Adrian Wynne Hughes, 62, of Penrhiwgaled Lane, Llandysul, Wales, appeared before magistrates on December 18, admitting the offence.

The court heard that police were performing speed checks at Ramsey Hairpin on August 18, at 5.06pm.

They recorded Hughes as he rode his BMW R1300 at 58mph in the 30mph zone.

He accelerated to overtake two cars as he approached the hairpin.

Hughes opted to represent himself in court, declining the use of a duty advocate.

He apologised and said he'd been overtaking to catch up with friends that he’d earlier been separated from.

Magistrates also ordered prosecution costs of £50.
