A whale carcass may have led to the discolouration of a pool of water at Groudle.

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture has confirmed the presence of the whale, which was brought to its attention after the water in the former zoo pool turned a distinct orange colour.

Pictures had surfaced on social media showing copper-coloured swirls in the water at Sea Lion Rocks.

A DEFA spokesman said: ’Because of the location of the carcass we advise the public keep away from remains for health and safety reasons.

’It’s likely the whale carcass may have been washed in by a high tide and it is hoped it may be dispersed with upcoming spring tides which are due to peak early next week.’
