Hedgehogs need our help.
While people might have enjoyed the recent spell of settled, warm weather, for hedgehogs it’s a different story.
Sandy Huyton, the founder of Manx Hedgehog Conservation Society, is asking people to leave out jeavy based bowls no more than 3theeinches in height of cool fresh water for dehydrated hedgehogs.
She said: ’The high temperatures for a long period of time is also diminishing their natural food source of slugs and snails and they are desperately digging into the ground to search for earthworms.
’Hogs can be fed cat or dog meat (no fish variety) and a treat of meal worms would help them on their way.
’Hedgehogs are nocturnal but, due to the lack of water and natural food source, they are out and about during the day desperately trying to survive.
’This is a very dangerous time for them.
’Hoglets back at the nest will also be starving to death due to mother not returning.’
