The winner of the BBC Television’s Apprentice show in 2017 is going to speak at an event in the island next month.

James White will appear at the Isle of Man Graduate Fair and talk about his career and what it is like to go into business with a major investor.

The fair is free to attend and is designed to help visitors gain skills and meet some of the island’s leading employers.

Mr White was a joint winner of reality TV show The Apprentice in 2017 and gained Lord Alan Sugar’s investment of £250,000 in his recruitment company, Right Time Recruitment.

He launched the business six months after graduating and not long after that applied to be on The Apprentice, pitching himself and his business for major investment.

Right Time Recruitment specialisies in IT and infrastructure professionals and is based in Birmingham.

Mr White will host a morning workshop for recruiters and personnel teams of Isle of Man organisations where he will provide advice and tips on how employers can best appeal to younger people.

He will also be speaking at an evening event at the Villa Marina, which is open to everyone, about his career, how he came back from adversity and what it’s like to go into business with a major investor.

’Looking back on my career it has been anything but simple and straightforward - which is something I am actually very proud of,’ he said.

’I think it is important for younger generations to understand that there are opportunities to build your career everywhere and the path to real success is not always conventional and easy to plan for.

’I am looking forward to visiting the Isle of Man and not only being able to speak to graduates about some of the biggest lessons I have learnt from my career, but also to help the Isle of Man business community ensure they are well equipped to provide young, ambitious graduates with the best possible start to their careers.’

Laurence Skelly MHK, Minister for Enterprise, said: ’Attracting graduates to the Isle of Man has been a key strategic focus for Locate Isle of Man since its inception. I am pleased that the event will encompass networking opportunities for young people as well as insightful sentiment from such a young and successful entrepreneur, James White.’

The Isle of Man Graduate Fair is aimed at students, graduates and anyone with an interest in or considering their next job, whether currently based in the Isle of Man or further afield.
