The Department of Infrastructure has shared an update on the work at Lough Mallow bridge.

In a post on social media, the DoI said the bridge superstructure has all been removed and the old water main has been removed and replaced.

It added: ’Work is now underway to prepare the abutments to take the 7 reinforced concrete slabs that will form the deck of the bridge, over which the road will be laid.

’Ducts for services are to be included in this work, and will include spare capacity in order to future proof the structure.

’The work is being undertaken by Paul Carey & Sons Ltd on behalf of the DOI. One of their team told us when taking the existing structure down that they found that a date of 1931 had been scratched in to the old concrete slab, indicating the last time that the deck had been replaced.’

There is a temporary footbridge on the side of the works and access to all properties has been maintained for either end of the road (via Lezayre or Jurby roads).
