Hundreds of talented local youngsters will get the chance to show off their skills on the island’s biggest stage next month, after learning from the professionals.
Following taking part in a summer theatre school run by the UK-based stage craft school Stage-ed, more than 100 children will join theatre star Amy Robbins and TV comedian Ted Robbins, who has also starred in Coronation Street and Phoenix Nights, to perform songs from the musicals at the Villa Marina on Sunday, October 3, from 7.30pm.
The show will feature a variety of professionally-produced renditions of classic songs from famous musicals such as Les Miserables, Mamma Mia, Miss Saigon, Wicked, We Will Rock You, Evita and many more.
The show will also feature Manx actor Steve Palfreman, who found fame starring as Mickey in the long-running West End production of ’Blood Brothers’.
Stephen is the director and co-founder of Stage-ed, and he has been running the Stage-ed theatre schools on the island for 10 years.
He said that he was excited about the chance to be able to bring the children back onto the stage, following a long lay-off, due to the pandemic.
’It was so special to be back in the Isle of Man for our Summer School this year following what has a been a very difficult 18 months for everyone,’ said Stephen.
’We had over 100 kids take part in this as well as dodging Covid.
’Our summer schools are a real mix of songs from the shows and kids get to work on dancing singing and acting, as well as most importantly having fun, making friends and building their confidence.
’All the children that attended the summer school had so much thrown at them this year.
’They all worked extremely hard, and we had so much fun, and we are so lucky to work with the talent of the children on the island.
’All the Children from the Stage-ed Summer Schools have been invited to perform in the show.
It is really heart-warming to see Theatre gradually make a long-awaited return, and this really is a night to celebrate its return and a night not to be missed.’
