Albany Lawn Tennis Club championships have finally come to a close and the awards were presented last Saturday.

The senior competition was sponsored by Chrystals Estate Agents and the juniors by Equiom (IoM) Ltd.

They winners and runners-up were as follows: Eight and under mixed singles winner Arayn Sen, runner-up Aditya Varshney; nine and under mixed winner Tommy Handley, r/up Oliver Neagle; 12 and under boys winner Rohan Neel, r/up Ryan Colquitt; 12 and under girls winner Libby Moore, r/up Diviyana Sen; 18 and under girls winner Ava Austerberry, r/up Caitlin Henery.

The Chrystals senior winners were: women’s singles Aailish Kelly, r/up Ava Austerberry; men’s singles winner Sean Drewry, r/up Jayden Go; women’s doubles winners Kirsten Hall and Kathy Yamasaki, r/up Sue Boot and Michaela Duchonova; men’s doubles winners Nerius Gricevius and Tim Davies, r/up Orry Farnworth and Greg Kelly.

Trophies were presented by Shane Magee of Chrystals, sponsors of Albany tournaments for more than 20 years. A vice-president of the club, Shane confirmed that the support will continue for next year’s event.

Tournament referee, Ian Watson, thanked both Chrystals and Equiom for their financial support and the players for their co-operation in completing the events.

l The series of Tuesday night open American tournaments was completed this week and the October winners are Neri Gricevius and Clare Skelcher.

The overall champion with the total number of games won over the four events is Neri, with Tim Davies runner-up.

A total of 24 players took part during the four months and everyone agreed they would like a similar series next Spring.

l The Friday Morning Ladies’ Christmas lunch will be held at the Empress Hotel on Friday, December 11. Invites will go out to members shortly.

Last Friday’s harvest lunch was a great success with 30 members attending and providing a delicious buffet. Donations for the Breast Cancer Awareness group raised £170.

l The annual race night takes place on November 27 and members will shortly be able to book a place and order their suppers, provided by the Horse & Plough. Some race sheets will be distributed to members to help boost the funds, and donations of raffle prizes would be appreciated.

l Christmas tombola tickets will be going to every member and the hope is that they will sell one book of 10 tickets.

Prizes include £50 cash, £50 M&S voucher, £25 cash, a Shoprite hamper, a jewellery box from Corlett’s, voucher for a blow dry at Cut Above, £25 Andreas Meat Co voucher plus the usual chocolates and bottles of wine.

The draw will be made in the clubhouse on Saturday, December 5 at 3pm.
