A total entry in excess of 260 people have entered this Sunday’s Syd Quirk Half-Marathon run and walk in the south of the island.

The event will be split into three start times at Ronaldsway Industrial Estate; with the bulk of the 49 walkers at 8.30am, followed at 8.45am by the slower runners expecting to take more than 2hr 15min to complete the 13.1-mile distance. The main field of runners will get away at 9.30. In total, there are 212 entries for the combined run.

After completing a lap of the industrial estate loop, competitors will then head out onto the road, turning left at the first roundabout and heading to Ballasalla, then left again to Cross Four Ways, and reverse way round the Billown Course through Ballabeg and Ballakeighan onto Castletown Bypass. The six-mile lap is completed by Victoria Road, Castletown, Janet’s Corner and the main road past the entrance to King William’s College. Two laps.

There could be an interesting contest at the head of the field between Jack Okell, Kevin Loundes, Nhlanhla Nzama, Jamie Newton and, Michael Garrett, with the likes of Ian Gale, Neil Brogan, Andy Nash, Andy Isaac and Ryan Downey all vying for top-10 finishes with the likes of Dave Bignell and leading females Gail Griffiths and Ciara Hardisty.

The walk is also quite interesting, with Adam Cowin, Sam Fletcher, Michelle Turner, Dale and Jayne Farquhar, Dave Walker, Pete Miller and Adam Killip.

The popular event is organised by Isle of Man Veteran Athletes’ Club and sponsored by Haldane Fisher, building and plumbing suppliers.
