Boxer Danny Roberts made an impressive professional debut in Liverpool over the weekend.

The former Manx ABC captain won his maiden fight in the paid ranks, beating seasoned pro Chris Jenkinsonin a four-round light-middleweight encounter at the Echo Arena Auditorium.

Cheered on by more than 150 Manx boxing fans , the 27-year-old won 39-37 on points to start his pro career with a victory.

In a post-fight interview Roberts said: ’After three years out I was a bit rusty and a made a few mistakes.

’In the first round I felt alright, but in the second round my energy levels dropped. Maybe it’s because I’ve been out of the ring for so long.

’I made hard work of it - I didn’t use my movement like I can.’

Roberts is hoping to have his next fight before the end of May.
