Jamie McCanney lost the E1 class lead in the Enduro World Championship when he was forced to retire injured from last weekend’s event in Italy.

The Outsiders Yamaha Official Enduro Team rider (right) entered the GP of Trentino aiming to continue his strong 2018 campaign.

It started with a SuperTest on Friday evening, but the main part of the event took place on Saturday.

But a shoulder dislocation while battling for the Enduro 1 class victory meant he was unable to score any points at all and he now finds himself second in the standings 20 behind provisional E1 class leader, fellow Brit Brad Freeman.

’There’s not much to say, really. I am disappointed with the crash and for not being able to score any points in Italy,’ said Jamie. ’I had some good races in the motocross test in the morning and I was gradually reducing the gap to the leader in the enduro test.

’Unfortunately I crashed while trying to take the provisional lead in the third enduro test. Looking at the positives, I am lucky that this injury happened now as we have two months before the next GP.

’The plan is to let my body recover properly before returning to action on September 1 and 2 at Edolo [also in Italy]. I want to thank my team for their great support during these difficult times.’

Meantime, Jamie’s brother Daniel rode well on the factory Gas Gas and, at the end of a long, hard day of riding, finished fourth in the overall EnduroGP class.

The event ended with the famous xtreme test of Pietramurata - also known as The Wall. In Enduro 2 class, he was runner-up to world champion Steve Holcombe and his own Gas Gas team-mate Christophe Nambotin.

The overall standings at the mid-summer break see Holcombe on 164, with Nambotin and McCanney each on 138. Enduro 1 has Freeman on 166 points, followed by Jamie McCanney 146 and Antoine Basset 130. Jamie remains fifth in the EnduroGP standings behind Alex Salvini, Holcombe, Eero Remes and Freeman.
