An energised and organised PwC Hoops took on Eagles in the latest set of Isle of Man Basketball Association Senior League games at the NSC on Thursday.

Becky Dunne got the action started for Hoops with an early three-pointer that ruffled the feathers of the Eagles team.

Hoops continued to control the pace and flow for much of the early throes of the contest, building a lead with quick cuts and handoffs for baskets from Lauren Ellison and Oksana Fedorovych, while a solid defensive line denied Eagles on the return.

The system continued to work through towards half-time when Eagles began to claw back, led by the speed of Jack Coates and shooting of Jack Elliot, the pair being pivotal to many recent Eagles successes.

As the ball was pushed faster down the court by Eagles, chinks started to appear in the Hoops defence and allowed George Dalton-Brown and Sean Ahern to find spots in the paint for boards and baskets.

Eagles also piled on the pressure in the back court, disrupting the flow of Hoops’ offence and leading to some quick steals and conversions.

The second half was not without some successes for Hoops though, Ellison again finding the mark while Danielle Murphy and Stephen Mulhern also found routes to the basket.

At the end of the game it was Eagles who were soaring high though, taking the win 61-34.

The second game of the evening saw an enthusiastic Wolves face PokerStars in a game that had plenty of quick breaks and outside swishes.

Ross Wilson continued his run of good form with a 27-point tally that included a trio of three-pointers.

Wolves ran a controlled offence - commanded by Oscar Lace - that worked well against the Stars defence. Plenty of opportunities were created for Jack Murray on the inside and shots opened for Corey Pinder, Ben Campbell and Kyle Mills, the latter hitting several impressive swishes from outside the arc.

PokerStars found some success on quick breaks and late crashes to the board, Bernaldo Davidas, Neil Domingo and Valerjis Djusko picking up points and rebounds to keep the offence flowing.

Wolves switched to pressure defence later in the game which stunted PokerStars’ progress, Michael Pardoe harrying the ball down the court leading to plenty of steals and fast-break baskets.

The game closed with a final swish three-pointer from Wilson which sealed Wolves’ victory, 84-41, and landed them second place in the league table ahead of the play-offs.

This Thursday sees six teams in action in the final regular season games ahead of the play-offs which start on Thursday, June 24.

On court one at 7pm Turkeys will play Eagles and then on court two at 8.30pm Douglas face PokerStars while Forget Me Not Jets take on Microgaming Cavaliers.
