Danny McCanney secured his best result of the season to date on the second day of the EnduroGP of Great Britain at the Hawkstone Park circuit in Shropshire.

Earning fourth on day one, Danny was only four seconds from a top-three result on Saturday on his Rockstar Energy Husqvarna.

Coming back stronger on Sunday, the TE 250-powered rider earned a strong runner-up Enduro 2 class result, crossing the finish line only two minutes behind his teammate Pascal Rauchenecker.

McCanney said: ’I’ve put a lot of effort into this race and I was really looking forward to it.

’We had two great tests on Saturday and a long and exhausting three-hour long race on Sunday.

’It was a new experience for all so I just did my best for some good results.

’Overall, I’m really happy with fourth on Saturday and second on Sunday.

’It was a tough weekend and we manged to come out of it with two positive results.

’My bike ran great throughout the weekend and it was pleasing to get these two results. The plan now is to take some rest before going back to my normal special test training. My focus now is on the big final in Germany next month.’

Danny’s younger brother Jamie remains in contention for the overall Enduro 2 class title after he finished third and fourth over the two days.

Jamie is now 13 points behind title rival Josep Garcia heading into the final two rounds of the series in Germany on October 20-22.

The Manxman topped the opening test on the first day of racing, securing six more top-three test results during the day to claim his 11th consecutive podium result.

Battling his way forward following a slow start in Sunday’s GNCC-styled event, Jamie put his head down trying to make up for time lost.

Eventually crossing the finish line in fourth, the Outsiders Yamaha rider wrapped up the weekend with a healthy collection of 38 championship points.

Jamie said: ’I had good speed in both tests and went on to top the cross test twice during the day.

’Then on day two I lost a lot of time trying to fire up my bike at the start line and then had to play catch up with other riders. I did my best to get back the time lost but it just wasn’t my day I guess. I didn’t really manage to get the best possible race pace so had to settle for fourth at the finish line.

’We take the positives out of a challenging weekend and we are already focusing on the big final in Germany. I’m 13 points behind class leader Josep Garcia now in the championship standings, with two days of racing to go anything is possible.’

David Knight also took part in the event’s main EnduroGP class but suffered a crash on day one which ruled him out of the event.

Knighter later posted on Facebook: ’Disappointing day for me, felt like I started to get going on test three but can’t remember much else.

’Apparently I knocked myself out so have been ruled out by medical staff so can’t race tomorrow which I am gutted about the most.’
