Ripon’s Matt Stevenson certainly let rip as he won a frantic Senior Manx Grand Prix on Friday afternoon.
The 24-year-old broke the 120mph average lap speed twice on his Yamaha YZF-R6 as he enjoyed a ding-dong battle with Kendal’s Stephen Parsons throughout the four-lap contest.
Stevenson ultimately won by 5.108 seconds despite being hit with a 10-second penalty for leaving his engine on while refueling at the end of lap two.
Both men later admitted they weren’t aware how frequently the lead changed hands between the pair, Stevenson also revealing he also wasn’t aware that he’d incurred a time penalty until the finish.
Kawasaki ZX-6R-mounted Parsons and third-place man Stephen Procter joined Stevenson in the Tommy Clucas Club after also clocking laps of 120mph-plus.
Procter finished 17.326 seconds down on Parsons and 10.543s ahead of impressive newcomer Mike Browne who finished fourth just ahead of the day’s earlier winner Farrell.
Junior MGP winner James Chawke was sixth.
Douglas’s Dean Osborne has been well-placed to claim a podium place until he retired at Quarry Bends on lap three.
Fellow local Brendan Fargher had also featured in the top six until he pulled in his Martin Bullock Motorsport Suzuki at Sulby cross-roads on the opening lap.
