Corinthians’ victory over reigning champions St Mary’s has been recognised by three of the Whites’ players being named in the latest Team of the Week.

Blane Slattery’s charges opened up a 10-point lead at the top of the Canada Life Premier League thanks to a 3-1 success over the Saints, although second-placed Rushen United have two games in hand.

The Whites’ win was as a result of good performances at both ends of the pitch, with Matty Quirk keeping St Mary’s at bay with several important stops and therefore earning the number one jersey in the latest hypothetical XI.

Corinthians’ victory was made all the more impressive given that they were reduced to 10 men early in the second half when Danny Gerrard was sent off, and key to their resistance was Cameron Lee who shone in the heart of the Whites defence to claim his place in a traditional four-man Team of the Week backline.

Lining up alongside him is namesake Cameron Avery plus Laxey star David Reynolds and Douglas Athletic’s Will Penhallurick.

Avery starred for Marown as the Crosby side continued their excellence recent resurgence with a rare victory at Peel, with the defender scoring what proved to be the winner in a 2-1 success at Douglas Road.

Reynolds has been this season’s most consistent performer thus far and delivered another typically impressive display for Laxey as the Miners triumphed 5-2 away at Douglas Royal, with the centre-back getting his name on the scoresheet in the process.

Likewise, Penhallurick was one of Douglas Athletic’s shining lights as the Pinks returned to winning ways thanks to a 4-2 success over St John’s at Springfield Road.

Also impressing in that match in Pulrose was Ste Cowan who grabbed a goal to set DAFC on their way to victory and therefore he earned his place in a three-man TotW midfield.

Joining him in the centre of the park are Laxey’s Ryan Gartland and his former DHSOB team-mate JJ Ballanda.

Gartland grabbed a goal in the Miners’ aforementioned victory over Royal - a result which moved the Glen Road side back up to fifth in the table - while Ballanda played a key role in helping Old Boys claim a fine point against former Grand Slam winners St George’s at Blackberry Lane to edge further clear of the relegation zone.

Taking the plaudits for Geordies in that game was Joey Morling whose fine performance earned a second Team of the Week appearance of the season so far.

Joining him in a three-man attack are Corinthians’ winger Dan Simpson and Marown starlet Owen Hurt who both impressed for their sides at the weekend.

Simpson was one of the stars of the show for the Whites during their aforementioned win at St Mary’s, scoring the crucial second goal just when it looked like St Mary’s would take advantage of Corinthians being reduced to 10 men at the Bowl.

Rising star Hurt enhanced his burgeoning reputation with a fine showing for Marown as the Crosby side stunned Peel to plunge the westerners further into the relegation dogfight.
