The latest Isle of Man Newspapers Team of the Week is an ECAP FA Cup special made up of those who impressed in Saturday’s eight prelim round ties.

The hypothetical XI includes five players from Division Two clubs and a 16-year-old who marked his maiden start for St George’s first team with four goals.

The latter teenager is Nathan Cardy who bagged a double brace against Governor’s Athletic as the cup contenders recorded a resounding 14-0 win.

Also impressing in that tie at Glencrutchery Road was the experienced defender Johnny Myers who grabbed a hat-trick to earn his place in the side.

Among the three other players joining Myers in the TotW’s defensive ranks are two flying the flag for the second tier.

Michael United’s Peter Dunn was one of the westerners stand-out performers as they took Douglas Athletic to penalties at Balleira Road.

RYCOB’s Jason Smith also impressed as the Ramsey side overcame fellow Division Two outfit Braddan after extra time at Victoria Road.

Completing the back four is Rushen centre-back Alex Maitland.

The United defender continued his fine season with a Man-of-the-Match showing as the Spaniards triumphed 7-2 at Marown.

Another man on top form this season is St Mary’s midfielder Jack McVey. Having clocked up several appearances in the usual Premier League TotW, he slots into the cup special after a solid performance in the Saints’ engine room as the cup contenders saw off a stubborn Douglas and District 4-0 at the Bowl.

Two more of the second-tier brethren slot into the midfield alongside Cardy and McVey.

Ayre United’s Shaun Kelly netted four goals as the Tangerines made short work of Gymns 11-1 at Tromode.

Teenager Ethan Leivers was one of those to catch the eye for Onchan as they scored an impressive 3-1 win at Division Two title hopefuls Union Mills.

The side’s front two both bagged hat-tricks at the weekend.

Peel’s Lee Gale scored his treble as western neighbours St John’s were beaten 4-1 at Douglas Road, while Hudgeon netted his as new club Youthie overcame Braddan 5-1 to set up a first round tie with the winner of Laxey’s outstanding game with Corinthians.

The TotW selectors were spoilt for choice in the goalkeeping department with Douglas Athletic’s Mason Prince edging out Onchan’s Callum Dawson and D and D’s Will Gavin for the number one shirt.

Prince saved two penalties as the Pinks beat Michael 4-3 on spot-kicks to tee up a first round tie with Colby.

Also impressing in that match was official Anthony Page who claims the Referee of the Week honours after a good game with the whistle.
