Furo Davies’ five-star performance for St George’s away to Laxey last Saturday spearheads the latest Isle of Man Newspapers’ Team of the Week.

On a day when there was certainly no shortage of goals in the Canada Life Premier League, the Geordies striker was in ruthless form as he put the Miners to the sword, netting no fewer than five goals in a 9-1 victory at Glen Road.

As such, the powerhouse forward impressed Eric Clague’s ratings panel and has been rewarded with his second Team of the Week call-up of the fledgling season.

One of Laxey’s other chief tormentors in that game was Chris Bass Jr who also shone against the Miners - having a hand in at least four goals - therefore he also picks up his second TotW selection in a front three which is completed by Corinthians striker Sean Doyle.

The Whites number nine came to his side’s rescue at Ballafletcher as his late header secured a valuable point in a 2-2 draw at home to DHSOB. His brace in that match was enough to secure his TotW debut in 2018-19.

Lining up in a four-man midfield is the talented quartet of Sammy Gelling, Frank Jones, Daniel Bell and Stephen Riding.

Winger Gelling produced arguably his finest performance to date in a St Mary’s shirt as he inspired the Bowl outfit to a comprehensive 5-1 away at newly-promoted Marown.

Another of his team-mates to impress in that match at the Memorial Playing Fields was skipper Frank Jones whose fine start to life back at the Saints continued with another goalscoring display to earn his first TotW call-up this season.

Bell was Peel’s star performer as Steve Falconer’s men brushed aside depleted Premier League newcomers Castletown 6-0 at the Stadium. While he didn’t get on the scoresheet himself, Bell produced a typically influential display pulling the strings in the middle of the park and narrowly edged out team-mate Matthew Woods to claim a spot in the hypothetical XI.

One man who did get amongst the goals on Saturday was Riding who delivered a man-of-the-match display as he scored twice to help Rushen United see off the challenge of Douglas Athletic, therefore earning his second TotW call-up in succession.

Bell and Woods’s Douglas Road team-mate Dominic McGreevy was in imperious form for the westerners as he marked his return from injury with a rock solid showing in the heart of the Peel defence.

Slotting in alongside McGreevy in a back-three this week are DHSOB captain Martin King and St Mary’s playmaker utility man Jack McVey. King was instrumental against title favourites Corinthians, producing a battling performance to earn Old Boys a deserved point despite playing the majority of the match with only 10 men.

McVey was in typically classy form for St Mary’s as he got his name on the scoresheet and helped his side to a convincing win at Marown.

Picking up the Team of the Week goalkeeper gloves this time around is Sam Holliday who enjoyed a good game for DHSOB against the Whites and therefore earns his first call-up of the campaign.

For the third time already this season, John McCallum is named Referee of the Week after another stellar performance in the middle of the Laxey v St George’s game.
