St George’s kept the Canada Life Premier League’s only 100 per cent record in tact with a 3-1 win over in-form Rushen at Glencrutchery Road on Saturday.
Connor Hislop’s goal gave Chris Bass Sr’s side a half-time lead only for the Spaniards to respond through Mike Williams at the start of the second 45.
The two sides, however, only remained level for a matter of minutes as Sean Quaye headed in a corner from fellow Geordies’ stalwart Chris Bass Jr.
The latter secured the hosts’ fifth win in as many games in stoppage time when he fired home at the second attempt to take his team level on points with leaders St Mary’s at the top of the standings.
The reigning champions bounced back from last week’s first defeat of the season at Rushen with a commanding 5-1 win over Peel at the Bowl.
Rhys Oates put the westerners ahead, but Alex Harrison’s home side hit back in emphatic fashion through goals from Frank Jones, Dan Hattersley, Jack McVey, Harrison and Tom Weir.
Elsewhere, three sides grabbed their first points of the campaign.
Douglas Royal edged past Douglas Athletic 2-3 at Springfield Road thanks to goals from Taylor Andrews, Tom Chatel and Aaron Fitzmaurice, while on the adjacent pitch Marown came from 3-0 down to beat hosts Pulrose United 3-4 and break their duck as the latter side finished with 10 men.
Ramsey also earned their first point and goal of the season as they drew 1-1 with DHSOB at Blackberry Lane.
In JCK Division Two, Union Mills won the battle of the top two beating RYCOB 5-1 at Garey Mooar.
Ayre United are up to second after a 7-0 win at second-bottom Governor’s Athletic, while
Colby sit third after they overcame Douglas and District 5-0 at the Station Fields thanks to a four-goal salvo from Carl Hickey.
Foxdale were the day’s other big winners, triumphing 7-1 at Gymns to move to within a couple of points of the second tier’s summit.
Onchan also moved back up the league with a 3-1 win over Michael United at the Nivison Stadium.
