Footballing history was made on Sunday as Douglas & District fielded a team in the island’s women’s senior league for the first time.

Opponents Douglas Royal proved to be party poopers though as they won the match at Noble’s Park 8-0.

The Whites led 4-0 at half-time, with Rebecca Cole (3), Caitlyn Smith (2) Sarah O’Reilly, Zoe Hawley and Gemma Kirkham netting for the Ballafletcher outfit who picked up their second win in as many weeks.

Corinthians registered their first win of the season after beating Union Mills 6-2, despite fielding only nine players.

Milly Dawson (3), Lula-Belle Findlay (2) and Kiera Morgan scored for the Ballafletcher side, while the Garey Mooar response came in the form of a brace from summer signing Tia Lisy.

In the other match, Peel beat Old Firm rivals Rushen United 11-0. Scarlett Callister starred with four goals, while Eleanor Gawne netted three. Lisa Costain (2), Maxine Jones and Ella Quirk completed the scoring.
