The Isle of Man FA’s men’s side kicked-off their latest Umbro Quadrangular campaign with a narrow 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday.
Paul Jones’s charges twice pegged back the Irish amateurs in Glasgow only for the competition holders to score the game’s decisive goal in the final 10 minutes.
After an even start to the encounter, the island side fell behind in the 27th minute when Shane Clark finished a smart one-two on the edge of the area.
The Men thought they had drawn level when Sean Doyle’s header appeared to cross the line. However, the referee didn’t give the goal and the islanders had to wait until the run up to the half-time break to draw level.
The equaliser came in the 39th minute when Peel winger Lee Gale’s dangerous low ball into the box from the right found its way to Rushen United midfielder Josh Thomas at the back post who knocked home the loose ball.
Ireland edged ahead again in the 51st minute when Eoin Hayes scored, but the Irish lead only lasted a matter of moments as Corinthians striker Doyle lashed home a quick-fire equaliser.
The Irish took the lead once more in the final 10 minutes when Stephen Donnelly struck.
The island side are in action on Thursday evening with a game against Northern Ireland at 7pm.
A game against Scotland rounds off the tournament on Saturday afternoon, kick-off 2.30pm.
