St George’s will face Corinthians in the Keystone Law Hospital Cup final on Saturday, May 19 after the pair won their respective semi-finals this afternoon.
Corinthians worked hard to overcome a Rushen United that had beaten them 4-1 when they met in the league last month.
Sean Doyle, back in the Whites side after recovering from a knock, put the FA Cup winners ahead after 25 minutes before Jamie Johnston levelled the tie 11 minutes later.
Doyle added a second in the lead up to the half-time break, but once again the Spaniards fired themselves back into the game when Josh Kelly shot in from the edge of the area at the start of the second half.
This came in the midst of a good Rushen spell, but they couldn’t add another goal as Corinthians struck next when Luke Murray netted after a determined run down the left flank.
As Rushen pushed for another equaliser, Corinthians added some gloss to the scoreline with two more goals in the final 15 minutes.
First Doyle completed his hat-trick after the ball broke to him in the box, before Ste Whitley added a fifth with only a couple of minutes left on the clock.
On the adjacent pitch at Ballafletcher, St George’s eased past Douglas Athletic to book their place in the final.
Furo Davies put the Saints ahead in the 15th minute when he rounded Pinks goalkeeper Matty Quirk and slotted home.
It wasn’t long before it was 2-0 when Johnny Myers beat the offside trap and rifled home, before captain Frank Jones bundled home from a corner to make it 3-0 at half-time.
After the break substitute Calum Morrissey increased the lead further before going on to complete a brace.
Tom Chatel rounded off the scoring for the Saints to complete a 6-0 win, but Chris Bass Sr will be sweating on the fitness off Ciaran McNulty and Davies who both went off injured.
