The latest Isle of Man Newspapers Team of the Week is an ECAP FA Cup special featuring those that shone in Saturday’s four ties.

Division Two Malew arguably pulled off one of the shocks of the cup’s long history when they beat top-flight title contenders Rushen on Saturday.

The Clagh Vane outfit’s 4-2 victory in Port Erin earns TotW places for four of Danny Cowin’s charges in the hypothetical XI.

Malew goalkeeper Stephen Collister picked up the player of the round accolade in the competition’s Preliminary Round and produced another impressive game between the sticks to keep the Spaniards at bay.

Collister’s captain Craig Cowin lead by example at Port Erin allowed the hosts few clear-cut chances in front of goal.

Cowin’s centre-back partner Ashley Egan also earns a spot in the XI.

He was a towering figure at the back, forming an impressive partnership with Cowin.

Corinthians pair Phil Kelly and Cameron Lee join the second-tier duo in the TotW’s rearguard.

Kelly had another sound game at the back, and netted two important goals as the holders beat Peel 3-1 in the day’s sole quarter-final tie.

Lee also helped ensure that the Whites were solid at the back as they became the first side to book their place in the last four.

Two thirds of the TotW’s midfield is made up of Ayre United players.

Ex-Rushen man Harry Best was the pick of a dominant midfield performance for the northerners as the Premier League leaders put Division Two Gymns to the sword 9-1 in Andreas.

Declan Cummins’s two goals capped a hard-working performance in midfield and caught the eye for the Tangerines who have already won the Railway Cup this season.

Ayre weren’t the only northern team impressing in the Cup at the weekend, Ramsey continuing their good campaign with a 6-1 win over Castletown.

Not for the first time this term, Jack Gilbert was one of the stand-out player for the Royals and he completes the TotW’s three-man midfield.

Gilbert’s team-mate Michael Simpson used his pace to caused problems for the Town defence and he joins Danny Oram and Dorin Tatar in a three-pronged attack.

The much-travelled Oram has settled in well at Ayre and added another strong performance in Saturday’s win over the 2000 cup winners.

Another one of Malew’s cup heroes completes the line-up.

Tatar bagged a hat-trick and was arguably the stand-out performer of the day as Malew overcame Rushen.

Referee honours go to John McCallum who took charge of the aforementioned Rushen and Malew match.

A local derby is rarely an easy game to control but McCallum got all the major decisions spot on.
