The sixth installment of 2020-21 Isle of Man Newspapers’ Team of the Week has adopted a cavalier attacking formation.

No fewer than four forwards are included in the hypothetical XI having scored 10 goals between them during last weekend’s Canada Life Premier League games, including three hat-tricks.

The players in question are Connor Hislop of St George’s, Rushen United’s Furo Davies, Corinthians’ Sean Doyle and Laxey’s Michael Fernandes.

Hislop helped put reigning champions St Mary’s to the sword at the Bowl as his 20-minute hat-trick rubberstamped a resounding 6-1 victory to send out a statement of intent for Geordies.

Likewise, Doyle starred for Corinthians as his treble set the Whites on their way to a 10-1 demolition of St John’s at Ballafletcher, a feat matched by Fernandes who shone for Laxey during their 6-1 win over Marown at Glen Road.

Elsewhere, Davies’ strike helped seal a 2-0 win for Rushen to make the long journey home from Andreas worthwhile and ensure the Spaniards remain top of the league table.

The two-man midfield in the latest Team of the Week comprises Fernandes’ fellow Miner Ryan Gartland and the latter’s former team-mate at Corinthians, Danny Gerrard.

Gartland played a key role in Laxey’s aforementioned victory over Marown, playing a part in several goals and also getting on the scoresheet himself.

Gerrard’s impressive start to the 2020-21 season continued on Saturday with another excellent showing in the heart of the Corinthians midfield against St John’s, scoring once on his way to claiming his third TotW call-up of the campaign already.

On the adjacent pitch at Ballafletcher, Callum Sherry was the star of the show for Douglas Royal who recorded their second win of the season with a 4-1 success over DHSOB.

In doing so, Sherry confirmed his place in a four-man Team of the Week defence alongside St George’s full-back Lewis Bridson, Ramsey’s Jamie Corlett and Peel’s Luke Doherty.

In his last match before returning to university, Bridson excelled for Geordies during their emphatic 6-1 win at St Mary’s, performing well at the back and grabbing an assist.

Both Corlett and Doherty went head-to-head in the west of the island, with the former’s Ramsey side going 1-0 in front before a Doherty-inspired Peel came from behind to win 2-1.

In doing so, the latter provided some much-needed solidity to the westerners’ backline in what has thus far been a difficult transitional season. As such, Doherty was the player of the day.

Corlett has been one of the northerners’ standout performance so far in the early stages of the campaign and was perhaps unlucky to end up on the losing side.

Donning the Team of the Week goalkeeper gloves in the latest installment is Christian Penswick who starred for Ayre United as the Tangerines frustrated leaders Rushen United in Andreas, keeping his side in the game during the Spaniards’ 2-0 victory.
