There’s a bumper six-game programme in the Canada Life Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

It’s hard to pick a match to top the bill as there are several intriguing encounters this weekend. Probably edging the battle for top pick though is Corinthians visit to reigning champions St George’s.

Geordies have put behind them a summer of flux in fine style, winning three of their opening four matches and drawing the other.

Corinthians were tipped by many in pre-season as the side to replace Geordies as the team to beat, but have dropped seven points thus far. Having said that this campaign is already shaping up to be one of the most competitive for many a season with Geordies and St Mary’s the only unbeaten sides thus far.

Corinthians dropped points to 10-men DHSOB last week as they continue to struggle to field a settled defence. A Geordies attack that is averaging five goals a game will look to take advantage in tie that could go either way.

Another cracker looks on the cards just down the road at Blackberry Lane where DHSOB host Rushen United.

Old Boys have recovered from back-to-back defeats to take seven points from their last three games and throw their hat in the ring for Railway Cup qualification. Rushen currently occupy the last spot for that and both sides will see this as a chance to lay down a marker. Again this one looks too close to call.

There’s a tasty-looking western derby at Douglas Road, where Peel host St John’s. The hosts will start as favourites for this one, but will need to do a professional job especially with both first-choice keepers Andy Ball and Owen Dawson likely to be missing.

At the foot of the table, the current bottom two - Douglas Royal and Laxey - go head-to-head at Ballafletcher. Both are yet to score a point, but will have pinpointed this game as winnable.

Again picking a winner looks hard, but Royal should just edge it with Laxey missing the likes of Andrew Burkitt and Matty Wilkinson who have now gone to uni.

St Mary’s should continue their unbeaten start at home to promoted Castletown, while early pacesetters DAFC should bounce back after two recent defeats against Marown in the division’s other two games.
