The winter’s wet weather has meant that only two of the Canada Life Premier League’s 12 sides have reached the 11-game mid-season point on schedule.

With this in mind, the race for Railway Cup qualification takes a back seat this Saturday as the first set of return fixtures of the campaign takes place.

Taking top billing is Corinthians’ trip to St George’s.Only two points separate the pair in the standings, both having lost two games thus far.

One of those Corinthians’ defeats came at the hands of Geordies back in September, when Chris Bass Sr’s charges triumphed 3-1 at Glencrutchery Road.

This is going to be tight, but the Saints will have the added motivation of it being the club’s 100th anniversary match.

Geordies first took to the field on December 18, 1919 losing 1-0 to Castletown at Poulsom Park and they will be keen to celebrate the special occasion in style.

Reigning champions St Mary’s will be looking to keep their current good run going at the head of the standings.

Alex Harrison’s Saints are unbeaten in the last six and should extend this to seven when they host bottom side Pulrose United.

The latter side couldn’t field a side last week because of illness and will do well to get anything out of this south Douglas derby.

Second-place Rushen United will also be favourites to end the weekend with three points with Marown the visitors to Croit Lowey.

Marown have bagged four points in their last three, but  face a Spaniards side unbeaten at Croit Lowey in the league in more than a year.

There’s a mid-table battle in store at Glen Road, where Laxey host DHSOB.The Miners triumphed in the reverse fixture 7-1 to kick-start a run that has seen them already surpass their points total for the whole of last season.

Old Boys’ performances have improved in recent weeks, so expect a closer scoreline this time out.

Peel face Ramsey in the top-flight’s other game.

The westerners required two late goals to see off Douglas Royal last time out, but will be favoured to claim the spoils against a Ramsey side that have only claimed a single point this term.
