The fixtures computer has thrown up a couple of cracking contests in the Canada Life Premier League this weekend, with four of the top six going head-to-head.
The games of the day take place at Glencrutchery Road and Blackberry Lane where St George’s host Peel and DHSOB entertain St Mary’s respectively.
Geordies are the only unbeaten team in the top flight but will put that record on the line this Saturday against a resurgent Peel side that has won its last six games in a row, including against then unbeaten leaders St Mary’s.
St George’s, though, have started the season in ominous fashion and show absolutely no signs of possibly relinquishing their league crown without a fight. They currently lie fourth but are only two points adrift of St Mary’s and Peel - and one off third-placed Corinthians - with games in hand over all the teams above them.
St Mary’s face a huge test of their potential title credentials at Blackberry Lane where they face an Old Boys side that only went down by the odd goal in five at Peel last time out and who also held title contenders Corinthians to a 2-2 draw earlier in the campaign.
Alex Harrison’s Saints will go into the clash as slight favourites to emerge victorious and will be on a high after smashing six goals past Douglas Athletic last weekend, but this clash could well go either way.
With the teams around them meeting each other this weekend, it presents a good opportunity for Corinthians to possibly steal a march on their rivals.
Danny McMahon’s Whites host Castletown at Ballafletcher this weekend and, while Town have won they last two matches in a row - against Douglas Royal and Laxey respectively - they will be very hard pushed to get anything from Corinthians.
St John’s look like they may be dragged into a relegation fight this season after a hit-and-miss start to the campaign and this week travel to a Laxey side also entrenched in a battle at the wrong end of the table.
The final game in the top flight this weekend sees Rushen United welcome Dave Brew’s Marown side to Croit Lowey. The Spaniards should start as favourites in this one but will need to be wary of complacency.
