Isle of Man FA will host its first walking football international at the Bowl on Saturday evening.
Coming to the island this weekend is a squad from Wales for a couple of six-a-side matches for players aged 50 and over.
The Manx team has been drawn from those that attend walking football sessions at the NSC on Monday and Thursday lunchtimes.
FA development officer Lewis Qualtrough said: ’It will be great to welcome Wales national walking football team over the weekend.
’When they contacted me to say they were keen on visiting the Isle of Man for some fixtures, our lads were delighted.
’Since we started walking football for the over 50s it has proved a fun way of getting people active and keeping them physically fit.
’It has also now become a good social experience for them too, as quite a few have a cuppa and cake together after the sessions at the NSC.
’While we entered an Isle of Man walking football team to travel and play in the FA People’s Cup back in 2015, for most of those involved on Saturday it will be their first competitive type of waking football game.
’We have to thank Adrian Higgins and Specsavers Isle of Man for its kind contribution towards the costs of organising Saturday’s games.
’If any over 50s are keen on getting involved in walking football, contact the IoMFA development team on 649394 for further details.’
