The Isle of Man Football Association’s senior men’s side kick-off their latest FA Inter-League Cup campaign on Saturday at the Bowl.
The first round tie against the Peterborough and District League is the first since new manager Paul Jones was appointed last month.
Only nine of the squad that landed NatWest Island Games gold in the summer are in the 16 for this weekend’s match.
Some of these changes have been forced upon the Rushen United boss with several of Nick Hurt’s Gotland selection unavailable for the PDFL game.
St John’s goalkeeper Damyan Petkov, club-mate Alex Holden and Corinthians striker Sean Doyle have all been ruled out through injury, while Chris Bass Jr is still ruled out because of work commitments.
The biggest blow to Jones’s plans though is the absence of St George’s in-form front man Ciaran McNulty who is away on holiday.
The forward has started the season in fine fettle and has already netted 12 league goals during the reigning champions’ flying start to the term.
Coming into the squad, which will be led by St George’s midfielder Frank Jones, are some familiar faces.
Geordies’ experienced pair Julian Ringham and Sean Quaye plus Peel duo Lee Gale and Marc Kelly all come back into the selection mix after periods away from the FA side.
There’s also a couple of newcomers to the fold, with Corinthians’ Adam Killey vying with DHSOB’s Sam Holliday to cover the absence of Bulgarian Petkov.
Rushen United attacker Mike Williams is the other newby in the match-day squad.
The islanders will be favourites to advance having won the competition for representative sides from leagues at step seven of the English National League System twice before.
Saturday’s 6pm kick-off marks the start of a busy week for Jones and his players with the Umbro Quadgrangular tournament taking place in Glasgow next week.
The action gets under way in Scotland on Wednesday afternoon, the FA side taking on the Republic of Ireland’s amateurs, before games against Northern Ireland and the hosts follow on Thursday and Friday respectively.
Isle of Man FA squad:
Sam Holliday (DHSOB), Adam Killey (Corinthians), Daniel Bell (Peel), Liam Cowin (Rushen), Furo Davies (St George’s), Lee Gale (Peel), Alex Harrison (St Mary’s), Frank Jones (St George’s) (c), Marc Kelly (Peel), Jack McVey (St George’s), Calum Morrissey (St George’s), Sean Quaye (St George’s), Stephen Riding (Rushen), Julian Ringham (St George’s), Dan Simpson (Corinthians), Mike Williams (Rushen).
