It’s arguably the biggest weekend in the Manx football calendar with island fans having two cup finals to look forward to.
The action kicks off on Good Friday afternoon at 2pm with the traditional curtain-raiser - the GH Corlett Woods Cup.
The second-tier competition has thrown up a few shocks this season, with Marown and RYCOB making it through to the final.
This should be a tight affair with the pair sitting third and fourth in the Division Two standings and only separated by a point.
The pair have only met once thus far this campaign, drawing 1-1 in Ramsey in October with Layton Ballard’s late goal for the host cancelling out Carl Hartmann’s strike for the Crosby outfit.
Youthie are on the back of five straight league wins. Indeed, their only defeat in their last nine was a narrow 3-2 FA Cup reverse at the hands of Premier League title contenders Peel last month.
Manager Matty Kelly has pretty much a full squad to choose from, with the only confirmed absentee centre-back Josh Edge who recently moved to Australia.
Midfield veteran Tony Corlett will also face a late fitness test as he aims to shake off a slight knee injury.
Attackers Ballard and Dylan Parish are the side’s dangermen having netted 26 goals between them. Goalkeeper Ryan Quigley’s good form has also put him in the frame for a call-up to Chris Bass Jr’s Isle of Man squad next month.
PE teacher Kelly will be hoping it will be a second successful trip to the national stadium for him in as many weeks after guiding St Ninian’s to success over QEII in last Thursday’s Senior Schools final.
Opponents Marown’s 75th anniversary season has slowly built up momentum in recent weeks and Dave Brew and Colin Gilbert’s charges are currently on a six-match winning run.
This has propelled them back into the promotion mix, with the Old Church Road side now three points off second-place Castletown having played three games fewer than the Mets.
Like his Youthie counterpart, Brew will also have a near full-strength squad to choose from with only summer signing Michael Hughes likely to be unavailable.
Top scorers Connor Gilbert and Carl Hartmann will be the men charged with posing the questions of a Youthie backline that is among the division’s meanest.
- The ECAP FA Cup final then takes centre stage on Saturday afternoon - see separate preview.
- Report and photos from the FA Cup and Woods Cup finals will appear in next week’s Isle of Man Examiner, on sale Tuesday.
