St Mary’s continue to set the pace at the top of the Canada Life Premier League thanks to a 4-0 win at St John’s on Friday night.
Under the Mullen-e-Cloie floodlights, the Bowl outfit were pushed hard by a depleted St John’s but in the end goals from Frank Jones, Josh Thomas, player/manager Alex Harrison and Craig Murphy sealed the points.
St George’s also remain unbeaten thanks to a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Rushen United at Croit Lowey.
In a game which could have gone either way, the Spaniards were guilty of missing chances while Geordies took theirs.
After a tight first half, the Saints edged in front on the stroke of halftime thanks to Ciaran McNulty’s poacher’s effort, before Joey Morling wrapped up the win late on.
Fellow title hopefuls Corinthians proved too strong for relegation candidates Douglas Royal in a Ballafletcher derby.
Sean Doyle struck twice in the opening six minutes to send the Danny McMahon’s men in their way, before completing his hattrick before the interval.
In the second half Corinthians moved further ahead courtesy of strikes from Dan Simpson, Tom Callister and Luke Murray to complete a good day at the office for the Whites.
Douglas Athletic are second in the table after continuing their fine start to the campaign with a 3-0 win over lowly Castletown at The Stadium.
Will Penhallurick got the Pinks off to a good start with an early goal before second half strikes from Mikey Callister and Nick Ford sealed the points for DAFC.
DHSOB’s resurgence continued as they edged past a battling Marown at the Memorial Playing Fields by the odd goal in five.
In JCK Division Two, Ramsey took the bragging rights in the northern derby with a comfortable 4-0 win over Ayre United.
Two goals from Rob Moreton and a goal apiece for Dom Parish and Dylan Pickles accompanied by a solid defensive performance from Ryan Williamson and Michael Valerga was the difference, with Steve Jauncey being left frustrated as his Tangerines never really got going on a windy Andreas afternoon (full report in Tuesday’s Isle of Man Examiner).
There was a shock at the top of the table as leaders Pulrose United suffered defeat to Union Mills.
There was little to separate the teams but in the end Chris Kelly’s strike proved the difference to seal the three points for the Millers.
That result allowed RYCOB to take over at the top of the table after the northerners saw off the challenge of Michael United at Scoill ree Gorree.
The Balleira Road side battled hard and it was goalless at halftime, but in the end goals from Martyn Murphy and Jamie sealed a 2-0 win.
There was also a surprise result at Noble’s Park where Douglas and District stunned top-four hopefuls Onchan, with Rob McCowliffe’s first-half goal sealing a 1-0 win for the hosts.
Foxdale proved too strong for Colby as they eased past the Moonlighters by four goals without reply. Jay Chatwood stole the show with a well-taken hat-trick while Andy Williamson completed the win despite a spirited performance by the southerners in the second half.
There was no shortage of goals at Bemahague where Malew got the better of Governor’s Athletic 7-4.
Dan McLaughlin and Ste Collister both netted twice for the Clagh Vane outfit and were joined on the scoresheet by former Governor’s striker Daniel Thirlwell, Carl Hickey and captain Josh Clarke.
