As Muirfield Golf Club finally agrees to open its doors to female members, Isle of Man Golf recently made history with the inauguration of its first lady president.

A mere 18 months since its creation following the amalgamation of the men’s Isle of Man Golf Union and the IoM Ladies’ Golf Association, retiring president Geoff Skillicorn welcomed incoming president Dee Lewis to the role.

In his closing remarks at last week IoM Golf Union aGM, Skillicorn said: ’Change is inevitable, and we should be open to its possibilities’.

Obviously ’Dee-lighted’ in her new role, Lewis outlined future plans, including the need to ensure a clear strategy and to improve communications with all existing and potential golfers to ensure thriving clubs with growing memberships.

The new president commented that ’golf is a game for all and a game for life’ and expressed the hope that her elevation to the role would raise awareness that the view of golf as an elitist and somewhat stuffy sport is completely outdated, at least in the Isle of Man.

With continued support from England Golf and a female president, Isle of Man Golf looks forward to a wealth of possibilities as it moves forward in developing the sport.
