The men’s and women’s Grant Thornton Isle of Man Golf Championships continued at Castletown Golf Club on Thursday evening.
In the quarter-finals of the women’s competition, defending champion Lynda Simpson was knocked out by Kayleigh Dawson who triumphed 3 and 1.
The prospect of an all-Dawson final remains intact after Kayleigh’s cousin Lea won impressively against 2018 winner Shirley Price by a 6 and 4 scoreline.
Youth also won out in the tussle between Emma Noon and Wendy Hogan, with Douglas teenager Noon triumphing 6 and 4, while the other last-eight clash saw Heather Skinner edge past Loni Evans by the narrowest of margins, winning on the 20th-hole play-off.
Women’s quarter-final results:
Lea Dawson defeated Shirley Price 6 and 4
Kayleigh Dawson beat Lynda Simpson 3 and 1
Emma Noon 6 and 4 versus Wendy Hogan
Heather Skinner edged past Loni Evans on the 20th-hole play-off
There’s a greater chance of a new name on the men’s championship trophy now after only one former winner made it through to the last-four after Thursday evening’s games.
The player in question is 2008 champion Jon Corke who got the better of youngster Tommy Fenlon 3 and 2.
Multiple champion Kevin Moore was knocked out by Andrew Challenor 5 and 3, while PJ Vermeulen saw off the challenge of Tom Doyle 5 and 4, and Gerlad Bradley edged past Daniel Bell 1up.
These results mean that all four players remaining in Friday’s semi-finals play for host club Castletown.
