Geoff Hall and Paul Tangeman produced a classic final in Isle of Man Billiards and Snooker Association’s Veterans competition recently.
In the end, after just falling short last year in the final, this time Hall prevailed as a 3-2 winner.
Hall had to work very hard, conceding a 28 start in his semi-final and 35 in the final. Earlier he came from 1-0 down in the quarter-finals to defeat 2020 winner Fred Corris 2-1 and in his semi-final made a similar comeback against Vic Rigby.
Tangerman came through a tight semi-final match with Brendan Clague 2-0 with pink and black ball frames.
He then took the first two frames in the best-of-five final before Hall scraped over the line in frame three.
Tangeman appeared to have potted a final black to give him a 3-1 victory, only to see the cue ball disappear into the middle pocket. Hall then played a very good deciding frame to clinch his first Veterans title.
Of the five frames in the final, three were on the black, one on the pink and the decider on the blue. The black balls included one in-off each from both players and a superb cut back from Tangerman.
It was good that the players had a decent audience as well to cap a great, although somewhat hot and sticky, afternoon.
Congratulations to Hall and well done to Tangeman, Rigby and Clague respectively.
The association would like to thank the Cue Zone for hosting and to officials Darryl Hill, Jane Hill and Scott Campion.
