The Isle of Man’s swimming team picked up another six medals at the Lathbury Sports Complex on Tuesday evening.

Four golds, one silver and one bronze medal made their way back home to the athletes’ village in Manx kit bags after another impressive showing from Lee Holland’s squad.

This means that every member of the 14-strong team has now won at least one gold medal after only two days of competition.

The headline act from Tuesday’s session were the women’s 4x50m medley relay team of Emma Hodgson, Laura Kinley, Olivia Marshall and Kiera Prentice who lowered the Games record that Hodgson, Kinley, Marshall and Steph Brew set in 2017.

The Manx quartet, who stopped the clock in 1:55.51, were a couple of seconds ahead of runners-up Guernsey and bronze medallist Faroes.

Another gold and another record, this time a Manx record, went the way of the men’s 4x50 freestyle relay line-up of Alex Bregazzi, Ben Kebbell, Joel Watterson and Euan MacMurchie.

The fearsome foursome edged out Guernsey for the win, the Channel Island having triumphed in the event at four of the last five Games.

Bregazzi wasn’t done there as he continued his fine form to win gold, and nab an Island Games record for good measure, in the men’s 200m freestyle.

The 21 year old took a comfortable victory over Faroes’ duo Alvi Hjelm and reigning champion Oli Mortensen, lowering the 10-year-old record from 1:47.76 to 1:47.66.

Marshall took her running total of gold medals at this year’s gala to four when she retained her 50m butterfly title in a new personal best of 27.31s.

Landing the team’s other two medals were Hodgson, who took bronze in the 100m backstroke, and Kinley who bagged her second silver of the Games in the 200m breastroke.

As in the 50m race, Kinley was again pipped to the line by the Western Isles swimming sensation Kara Henlon who lowered her own Games record by three seconds on her way to victory.
