The sixth round of fixtures in Isle of Man Basketball Association’s Senior League season saw three games take place at the NSC on Thursday evening.

The first match on court one saw league leaders Jets take on reigning champions Cavaliers, with the former seeking revenge for their defeat in the play-off final last season.

The game started with both teams trading baskets and Jets held a 6-4 lead halfway through the first quarter. With Jake Glover and Peter Boussougou leading the way, Jets went on a 14-0 run to stretch their lead to 20-4 at the end of the quarter.

The start of the second period saw Jets continue to dominate the game at both ends of the court and they stretched their lead to 37-15 heading into the half-time break.

But Cavaliers, helped with six points from Dave Minay and four from Daniel Dunajewski, opened the third period with a 10-0 run to reduce Jets’ lead to 12 points.

Calling a timeout, Jets re-grouped and with an eight-point haul from Wayne Mears they re-established their control of the game to end the quarter leading 50-28.

The fourth period was an evenly-matched affair with both teams hitting strong outside shots and it was Jets who eased their way to a 62-42 victory.

Leading the scoring for the Jets team was Mears with 19 points, while Minay led the way for Cavaliers with 13. Man of the match was named as Prince Tisgo (Cavaliers).

l The second game of the evening saw the young Ravens team take on the experienced Wolves side.

A blistering start by the latter saw Cameron Scott score the opening basket and, with Michael Connelly chipping in with 10 points, they opened up a 12-point lead only three minutes into the contest.

Ravens coach Michael Pardoe called a timeout which appeared to settle his team as they returned to the court with Vannin Coulter and Zak Mitchell both hitting downtown three-pointers to reduce the lead to six.

By the end of the quarter, Wolves were 19-8 ahead and some strong driving to the basket by Connelly at the start of the second period saw them extend their lead further, therefore they went into the half-time break leading 39-15.

The third and fourth quarters saw Wolves take further control of the game and, despite the best efforts of the Ravens team, it was Wolves who ran out victorious 62-30.

Leading the scoring for Wolves was man of the match Connelly with 29 points and Jack Murray with 11, while Coulter led the way for Ravens with 13 which included a trio of three-pointers.

l The final game of the evening saw Turkeys take on Eagles, with the former looking to get back to winning ways after their dramatic one-point loss to Cavaliers the previous week.

Starting the match strongly, it was Turkeys who took control in the first quarter and with 10 points from David Boyd they held a 26-11 lead going into the second period.

Another eight points from Boyd in the second quarter and strong defensive work from Turkeys saw them keep the Eagles team at bay and they entered the half-time break leading 47-27.

Opening the third quarter with two three-pointers from Chris Wolfendale, Turkeys extended their lead and went into the fourth quarter leading 74-36.

The game slowed down in the fourth quarter with the Eagles team matching the baskets of their opponents to leave the final score 88-50 in Turkeys’ favour.

Leading the Turkeys scoring were man of the match Boyd with a season-high 29 points followed by Wolfendale with 27, while Jack Coates and George Dalton-Brown with 16 and nine respectively led the Eagles scoring.

l The previous week, Cavaliers recorded a one-point win 58-5==7 against Turkeys, while another close game saw Jets beat Wolves 46-43 and Ramsey team Eagles defeated PwC Hoops 69-37.
