Max Walker and Tyler Hannay were again to the fore in Manx Viking Wheelers’s Penrice Trophy 25-mile time trial championships on Sunday.

The pair have simply been on-fire over the past month, but their previous scorching times were tempered slightly by wet roads on this occasion.

There was surface water everywhere, with rain for the first 40 minutes from the 9am start at Rhencullen.

Marshals and officials were slowing riders down on the main road junctions, so times were generally slower than they were for the Manx Road Club event a fortnight earlier.

That said, Trinity Racing rider Walker still managed to knock out a 51 minute 16 second performance - well inside Andrew Roche’s local 25 record that stood for seven years until earlier this month.

Hannay, riding for the Utmost (IoM) Junior Cycling Team, went round in 52.17, way quicker than Will Draper’s junior record until he got hold of it recently.

James Harrison (Utmost) set a personal best of 54.09 - a full 35s quicker than August 2 - to seal third overall and second junior.

He traded places with leading veteran Rob Moneta (Ellan Vannin), who was third overall in the MRC event and fourth this time in 54.50 - edging out over-45 Gianni Epifani (MVW) by 11s.

Best of the men in the 30-39 age bracket was Richard Lardner-Burke (MRC) in seventh spot, while Mark Harrison (Manx MBC) was best over-50 and Juan Kinley (MRC) leading over-55.

Drops rider Anna Christian rode her first 25 of the year to go round in 61.09s to win the women’s title from Jessie Carridge (MVW) 62.06 and Emily Looker (MRC) 67.42.

Resident Irishman Peter O’Shea (MVW) was the best over-60 in 64.36 and Niall Colquitt (Team RL360 Isle of Man) fastest youth in 61.45.
