Mike Browne set an unofficial lap record for the Formula One class in Friday afternoon’s combined Classic TT and Manx Grand Prix qualifying.

The Irishman lapped the Electric Van Co Kawasaki ZXR750 at 127.55mph (17 minutes 44.890 seconds) a smidge quicker than the existing record of 127.496mph set by Dean Harrison on a similar machine in 2017.

In what many riders described as the best conditions of the week, Jamie Coward, Davo Johnson and Michael Dunlop all posted laps in excess of 125mph.

Dunlop had also been quickest in the Classic’s Lightweight class on the Padgett’s 250 Honda. The TT’s most successful rider stopped the clock at 19 minutes 15.044 seconds for an average speed of 117.60mph.

Joseph Loughlin was again quickest in the ultra-lightweight class, lapping at 110.31mph on the G2 Technical Services Kawasaki ZXR400.

In the Junior 600 class, Manxman Joe Yeardsley was the quickest on the Tony Leach Joinery Yamaha YZF R6. He stopped the watch at 18:50.550 (120.143mph).

In the Historic Juniors, Ballaugh resident Dean Harrison was fastest on the Craven Classic Racing/Ted Woof Honda with a lap of 21 minutes 41.368 seconds.

Paul Jordan and Jamie Coward completed the top three in that class.

John McGuinness dominated the Historic Senior class, topping the session leaderboard on the Team Winfield Paton with a lap of 113.092mph (20:01.040).

Johnny Stewart was once again the man to beat in Manx Grand Prix qualifying. In the Supersport class he posted another 120mph lap on the Kawasaki ZX-6R.

Lee Hara, however, was only a couple of seconds behind with a lap of 18:48.755, nudging him up into the 120mph-lap bracket.

In the MGP’s Sportbike division, Liam Chawke was fastest with lap of 113.374mph, which was just ahead of Eddy Wormald who only made his Mountain Course debut this time last year.

Tomorrow (Saturday) is the first race day of the festival, with the Manx Grand Prix’s opening two races set to take place.

After roads close at 9.30am, the three-lap Sportbike MGP takes place at 10.15am, with the four-lap Supersport MGP race at 2.15pm.
