Port Erin’s David Mullarkey has been selected to represent England in an Under-20 International 10 km race on the road in the city of Oderzo, North Eastern Italy on Tuesday.
This will be the Manx Harriers man’s second road 10km after his successful Easter Festival where he was the first u20 athlete round the Port Erin and Port St Mary course in a time of 32min 15sec.
This performance brought him to the attention of the England selectors and now he has his chance to shine on the international stage.
The race in Oderzo is on a pan-flat course through the city streets and is an annual international event between England and Italy aimed at fostering young distance-running talent.
The five-man England team consists of Mullarkey, Nathan Dunn (Preston Harriers), Zakariya Mahamed (Southampton AC), Mac O’Malley (Trafford AC) and Jem O’Flaherty (London Heathside AC).
An u20 women’s 5km event is also taking place.
The event will prove to be a great experience and in addition hopefully one of the highlights of the Castle Rushen student’s young career.
He has already competed in the NatWest Island Games and also the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2017. As such, this is a major addition to his growing athletics CV.
