Robbie Callister won the African Centurion Race Walk held on Robben Island, close to Cape Town, over the weekend.
The five-time Parish Walk winner completed 22 laps, a distance of 160.1km (100 miles) round the roads of the former penitentiary in a total time of 20hr 33min 40sec, averaging 7m 42s kilometres per hour.
Runner-up was his close friend and fellow Castletown man Andrew Titley in 21:51.24.
Noble’s Hospital GP David Walker retired after 16 laps. He was given a final placing of ninth.
Only eight men and two women completed the gruelling 100-mile event in hot conditions.
Suzannah Corkill, also of Castletown, completed 15 laps (110.4km) in 17-and-a-half-hours and was officially placed fifth.
Including pairs and teams of four, a total field of 202 walkers tackled the second annual event on the Robben Island course.
